Kawana Waters Rotary Club

Community Service

Citizenship Ceremony

Kawana Waters Rotary Club has been conducting an Australia Day citizenship ceremony for the last 20 years. It is held in the Kawana Community Centre Hall and about 50 people are welcomed into the community each year. Our own member the Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP for Kawana has conducted the ceremony for the past 4 years.

While registrations are taking place, Eddie Charles entertains the audience of approximately 200 with his singing of Australian songs, and then local cadets march in the flags at the beginning of the ceremony. After being presented, by Jarrod Bleijie with their certificates, each new citizen is presented with an Australian plant by local counsellors, and are then invited to join our members for a morning tea of lamingtons and Anzac biscuits.

In 1996/97 the Rotary and University of the Sunshine Coast Community Fund (RUSCCF) was created by all of the Rotary Clubs on the Sunshine Coast, in order to support Australia’s newest public university, the University of the Sunshine Coast. The fund’s objective is To advance tertiary education opportunities through a partnership between the combined Rotary Clubs of the Sunshine Coast and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Kawana Waters Rotary Club has proudly been involved since the beginning and has to date contributed over $10,000 to the fund.  Total contributions of all Sunshine Coast Clubs, to the fund to date, exceed $150,000.

Each year at a joint meeting at the University, of the Sunshine Coast Rotary Clubs and the USC, 4 RUSCCF scholarships are awarded, to postgraduate students who have completed their initial undergraduate degree at the University, and are enrolled in postgraduate studies at the USC at either Masters or Doctorate level.
