Kawana Waters Rotary Club is involved in many areas of youth.
Buddina Primary School
We have a close association with Buddina Primary School where we have sponsored an EarlyAct Club, which has 32 grade 6 members and meets every 2 weeks, with two of our members Fiona Campbell and Denise Priede attending as Rotary advisors. The students establish their own goals in service areas relating to school, local and global and plan how they are going to achieve their goals.
Kawana State College
We also have a close association with Kawana State College. At awards night we present 9 students, chosen by the staff, with cheques for $100 each.
Each year we sponsor two students to attend The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN), which is a weekend camp aimed at developing the student’s leadership skills.
We also part sponsor a student to go to the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in Canberra, which is a 12 day residential program for students about to enter year 12. This program guides them through a wide variety of career options available, in science, technology and engineering fields. These places are highly prized and nominated students have to go through an interview and selection process.
RYDA is a program about youth driver awareness. This program was started in 2008 as a joint venture by the Rotary Clubs of Caloundra, Caloundra Pacific, Glasshouse Mountains and Kawana Waters. This has grown over the years and now is available to every year 11 student in our area. The program involves four 30 minute sessions in one day, on various aspects of car and driver safety, and is held at the Corbould Race Course. It is now funded by the Department of Main Roads.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYDA) is another program we are involved in. It is a 6 day live in camp for young people. The aim of this program is to develop leadership skills, promote team work, gain lifelong learning skills and promote self confidence.
